The National Anthem of Ireland アイルランド国歌はコーラスの部分とそうでない部分で構成されており、実は、国歌というのはこのコーラスの部分（下記の歌詞ではブルーの部分）だけです。ただし、大統領が列席する場合には、他の部分も演奏されるということです。コーラス以外の部分も含め、1907年に作詞され、1912年、Irish Freedom 新聞紙上において公表。1926年、それまで使われていた God Save Ireland に代わるものとして正式に国歌として承認されました。また、あまりにも軍事色が濃く、反イギリス的な歌詞であるため、最近では、新しい国歌を採用すべきだという声もあるようです。オリンピックなどの正式な場においても、コーラス以外の部分も合わせて演奏されたり、演奏のテンポが違ったりと演奏するのもなかなかむずかしいようで、こういったことも新国歌設定への動きと関係あるのかもしれません。ちなみに、スポーツなどで、北アイルランドとの統一チームで参加する場合には Irelands Call という歌が演奏されます。 下記のサイトに行くと、アイルランド国歌が聴けます（歌なし）。 Listen to: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/2667/anthem.html ※なお、音楽を聴くには専用のソフトが必要な場合があります。

Written by Peadar Kearney, circa 1907 English translation: Soldier's Song We'll sing a song, a soldier's song, With cheering rousing chorus, As round our blazing fires we throng, The starry heavens o'er us; Impatient for the coming fight, And as we wait the morning's light, Here in the silence of the night, We'll chant a soldier's song. Chorus: Soldiers are we whose lives are pledged to Ireland; Some have come from a land beyond the wave. Sworn to be free, No more our ancient sire land Shall shelter the despot or the slave. Tonight we man the gap of danger In Erin's cause, come woe or weal 'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal, We'll chant a soldier's song In valley green, on towering crag, Our fathers fought before us, And conquered 'neath the same old flag That's proudly floating o'er us.
