 FILE NO. 12  破壊、破損
damage 価値や有用性を損なうこと

 Notes 
人、物を目的語として、その価値や有用性を損なうという意味。

 Example 
The storm was so violent that it damaged buildings.
ruin 取り返しのつかない破壊

 Notes 
破壊の程度がひどく、取り返しがつかない状態を言い、物理的、道徳的、社会的、または経済的な破壊を表す。名詞として「遺跡」という意味もある。

 Example 
She complained how her mother-in-law ruined her marriage.
destroy 完全に破壊する、消滅させる

 Notes 
書類などを焼いてしまう、破り捨てる、絶滅させるなど、破壊の様子が徹底している様子を言う。

 Example 
The fire destroyed valuable ancient records stored in the house.
Farmers had to destroy all the infected plants.
wreck 衝撃などで甚だしく破壊する

 Notes 
衝突などの衝撃でめちゃくちゃに破壊することを言う。船などの難破にも使われ、名詞として、難破、破壊された乗り物や建物の残骸という意味でも使われる。

 Example 
The collision wrecked the car, killing the driver.
raze 建物などを倒壊させる

 Notes 
家や建物などを地面と同じ高さにつぶしてしまう、つまり、完全に壊す、倒壊させる、消してしまうという意味。

 Example 
The earthquake raized old buildings in the area.
demolish 建物などを取り壊す

 Notes 
建物などを人為的に取り壊す、あるいは、名声・評判などを著しく傷つけるという意味。

 Example 
The government demolished the buildings to construct a new road.
